The Department of Medical Research of the 251 Hellenic Air Force & VA General Hospital has been assessed and evaluated by the National Committee for rare diseases as a candidate expert center for Langerhans’ Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and Erdheim Chester Disease (ECD ) and was officially recognized as such at a National level in November 2019 (official Gov. gazette No 4269, issued Nov 22, 2019 by a common ministerial degree).

In addition, on Friday the 26^th of November 2021, the European Reference Networks (ERNs) Board of Member States, as given in the Implementing Decision 2014/287/EU Article 10, has approved by consensus the Department’s application to join the ERN on Rare Hematological Diseases (ERN- EuroBloodNet). As of January 1, 2022 the LCH adult clinic has officially joined the ERN-  EuroBloodNet.
